| Dr. Shannon Rader is Lecturer in and Director of the online Parent and Family Education Program in the University of Minnesota Family Social Science Department. She has worked in public and private educational settings for over 25 years as an early childhood teacher, parenting educator, early childhood program administrator, and in higher education preparing early childhood and parenting educators. The majority of her work has been focused on Minnesota’s unique, universal access parenting program, Early Childhood Family Education. In her current role, she works with students across the country and around the world to develop the knowledge and skills to be a quality parenting educator. Her approach to teaching and learning is relationship-based and strength-based while demonstrating a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice. She brings her extensive field-based experience in early childhood education and parenting education to the classroom to provide real-life examples and dilemmas for students to explore together. Dr. Rader has a MA in Family Education and a PhD in Educational Policy and Administration with a focus on Evaluation Studies, both from the University of Minnesota. She is licensed by the state of Minnesota to teach both Parent and Family Education and Early Childhood Education. She has served on numerous non-profit boards, including as co-founder of the Minnesota Association for Family and Early Education. Shannon lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with Jeff, her husband of 15 years. They are child-free by choice and have three cats: Merry & Pippin (orange twin boys named after the hobbits in Lord of the Rings) and Blu (aka Boo Boo, a chonky black and brown tabby). She enjoys mindful walking where she ponders the wonder and beauty of nature. |
