| Cynthia Levasseur is a Prevention and Wellness Specialist/Family Wellness Coordinator at Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare in Roanoke, Virginia. Specifically, she manages the parent education and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) programs offered through the agency. She is the lead facilitator for both of these programs, and has expanded the parent education programs to also be inclusive of parents and caregivers of children with special needs diagnoses or significant medical challenges. With Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare’s support, she has effectively set technology-based accommodations in place that serve to remove language barriers for those whose primary language is not English or for those who are hearing impaired. Cynthia approaches her role as a Prevention and Wellness Specialist from the mindset of having raised two children of her own, one of whom has autism, and the other who had significant medical challenges as a young child, as well as from lived experiences with ACEs. She is also thoroughly enjoying being a grandparent. Her passion is to strengthen families through education, to build protective factors in children, families, and the local community and beyond. Cynthia received both an Associate of Arts in Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. She has also completed Trauma Informed Care training hours, meeting the standards as established by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. Additionally, she obtained certification as an ACE Interface presenter from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, and completed Positive Cultural Framework training from Montana State University. She is also trained in Adult Mental Health First Aid from the National Council of Mental Wellbeing, and is a trained facilitator for the Be a Resilience Champion program as established by the Roanoke Prevention Alliance. |
